Schalke star Draxler rejects Chelsea approach
The 19-year-old forward is seen as a potential replacement for Juan Mata although he is keen to remain at the Veltins Arena next term before again reassessing his future
Chelsea have been knocked back by Schalke star Julian Draxler after making an approach for the 19-year-old, Goal understands.

Draxler is seen by Stamford Bridge chiefs as a potential replacement for Juan Mata, who is understood to be aggrieved by news that Jose Mourinho is open to selling him to raise funds for his restructure of Chelsea's senior squad

The Spain international, who has been granted additional leave by Chelsea following the Confederations Cup, is seeking talks with Mourinho in order to clarify his future. His club has been proactive in identifying Draxler as a possible successor.Draxler, however, is keen to stay at the Veltins Arena next term ahead of the 2014 World Cup and has rejected an informal inquiry from Chelsea. The option of a pre-contract agreement for the 2014-15 campaign was also mooted by the Premier League club.

The young German, who signed a contract extension with the Gelsenkirchen club in May that runs until 2018, has already been capped six times by the senior German national team and is already establishing himself as a key part of an exciting young side that also boasts the considerable talents of Mario Gotze and Marco Reus.

"I have read that I will definitely leave in 2014, but that's nonsense. It's by no means a certainty that I will stay at Schalke for just one more season," Draxler told Bildearlier this week.

"I am fully focused on the upcoming season for now and 2014 is still far away. If I receive some financially interesting offers again next year, I will sit down and evaluate what's best for me."

Since returning to west London, meanwhile, Mourinho has pressed ahead with plans to reshape the club's forward line having signed Andre Schurrle from Bayer Leverkusen, as well as giving Romelu Lukaku assurances that he will be given first-team opportunities having impressed while on loan at West Brom.

After missing out on Paris Saint-Germain-bound Edinson Cavani, Mourinho has also sanctioned the pursuit of Aston Villa’s want-away striker Christian Benteke and deemed both Fernando Torres and Demba Ba as surplus to requirements. Sporting have rejected an offer of €4 million for their Portugal youth international Bruma.

1.Thought to be a target for Barcelona, Pepe Reina's future has been under intense speculation following the arrival of former Sunderland 'keeper Simon Mignolet at Anfield. Despite Brendan Rodgers insistence that the signing of the Belgian is to increase competition for places, it will be hard to see Reina accepting a spot on the Liverpool bench should Mignolet get the nod ahead of him.

2.While Pepe Reina faces a fight with Simon Mignolet for a first team spot, Brad Jones faces being relegated to third choice once more. The Australian is seemingly content to play little football, but Liverpool may decide to get him off the wage bill if Reina stays and promote promising reserve goalkeeper Danny Ward to senior duty if the need arises.

3.The big story of the summer from Liverpool continues to centre around Luis Suarez's 'will he, won't he?' decision to leave the club. Undoubtedly one of the world's finest attackers, the loss of Suarez could be catastrophic to the Reds' bid for a top four spot next season. Should he leave, his likeliest destination appears to be Real Madrid, although Italian giants Juventus look to be an option.

Another player touted for an Anfield exit, the arrival of Kolo Toure and rumoured pursuit of Ajax captain Toby Alderweireld has cast doubt over Martin Skrtel's Liverpool future. Should he leave the club, the Slovakian would have no problems in finding a new club, with former club Zenit St. Petersburg reportedly interested, while ex-Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez could take him to Napoli after admitting his fondness for his old charge.___________________________
5.Sebastian Coates' time in England has been a major flop, with the Uruguayan failing to live up to initial expectations. While he has proven his abilities on an international level, for Liverpool, Coates has seemed a liability at times, not least during the Reds' FA Cup loss to Oldham last season. Rodgers has kept his cards close to his chest, admitting he will 'wait to see what the summer brings', but it doesn't look good for Coates.

6.Having spent the whole of last season on loan at Bolton, it seems increasingly likely that Jay Spearing's long-term future lays away from Liverpool. The Melwood academy graduate is being heavily linked with a move to newly-relegated Wigan, who see the battle-hardened midfielder as an integral part of their bid to regain Premier League status and with competition in the Liverpool starting XI fierce it increasingly looks like he could leave in the coming weeks.

Liverpool hold talks with player's agent

Luis Suarez's agent has had clear the air talks with Liverpool - as Arsenal hover for the Uruguayan star.

Suarez's adviser Per Guardiola met both manager Brendan Rodgers and chief executive Iain Eyre to speak about the unsettled star.

Arsenal have made a high-level approach to the club's American owners and been rejected. But the interest remains.

However Guardiola assured Liverpool that Suarez will not rock the boat and is willing to wait to see if any buyer reaches the magic £40 million figure for him.

Suarez is on holiday after a busy spell with his national team and will miss the start of the season as he serves a ban for biting.

But the future of the striker could be settled sooner if the right offer is made, although

Arsenal are well short of the valuation.

After the round of talks Liverpool are relaxed about what happens next as Suarez and Guardiola will quietly test the market and see if there is a giant bid - or if he stays.

"Gerrard picked up the phone and called him to sign forLiverpool"Butland's agent, Gary Mellor:"I had a meeting with Liverpool about Jack, and (Liverpool's managing director) Ian Ayre said the only player Steven Gerrard has ever picked up the phone and called them to sign was Jack when he was in the England squad in Poland and Ukraine last summer."That shows how highly thought of he is, and I think Stoke have got an absolute steal.
