The tournament hosts win the Confederations Cup with a stunning victory over the world champions thanks to Fred's double and a stunner from Neymar

  • Julio César

    Julio César

Had very little to do but the Brazil goalkeeper stayed sharp and alert, making very good fingertip saves to deny Pedro and Villa late on.
  • Daniel Alves

    Daniel Alves

An energetic display as he bombed up and down the right touchline while defending comfortably.
  • Thiago Silva

    Thiago Silva

Rock solid display for the Brazil captain as first Torres and then Villa were denied any space in the penalty area.
  • David Luiz

    David Luiz

The Chelsea centre-back stuck close to Torres and did a good job of denying his club team-mate space, but his highlight was a wonderful, gravity-defying clearance off the line to deny Pedro. It was celebrated like a goal by the crowd.
  • Marcelo

    Marcelo

Decent display on the ball but the Real Madrid man did look suspect defensively. Let Pedro run through on goal in the first-half and conceded the second-half penalty with a clumsy challenge on Jesus Navas.
  • Oscar

    Oscar

Made his class show in the final third as he linked together Brazil's attacks. Fired just wide early on and was very intelligent with the timing and weight of his pass to set up Neymar for his side's second.
  • Luiz Gustavo Dias

    Luiz Gustavo Dias

The Bayern Munich man sat deep in midfield alongside Paulinho and performed very well. Denied Spain space between the lines and used the ball well with tidy passing.
  • Paulinho

    Paulinho

Set the tempo for Brazil's pressing game as he snapped into tackles, hassled the Spain midfield and drove forward attacks. Tested Casillas in the first-half with a superb lob from long range.
  • Fred

    Fred Top of the Match

Took his record under Scolari to nine goals in 10 appearances with two strikers' goals. The first was turned in from close range after the ball broke free, the second a lovely finish slotted into the corner. Might have had a hat-trick had he not shot straight at Casillas in the first-half.
  • Neymar

    Neymar

The new Barcelona man completed a wonderful individual tournament with another quite brilliant display, perhaps the best of the lot. Doubled Brazil's lead just before half-time with a stunning strike into the top corner and delivered a wonderful dummy in the build-up to the third. His speed, trickery and vision were too much for the Spain defence to handle.
  • Hulk

    Hulk

Made some bad decisions in the final third but his directness and power troubled Spain, not least when he crossed from the right in the build-up to the opening goal. Replaced by Jadson in the 73rd minute.

Substitutions

  • Hernanes

    Hernanes

Replaced Paulinho two minutes from time.
  • Jadson

    Jadson

Lively performance after replacing Hulk 17 minutes from time.
  • Jô

Came on for Fred with 10 minutes to play. Forced Casillas into action with a powerful low strike.

  • Iker Casillas

    Iker Casillas

The Spain captain is used to largely playing a spectator role, but here he was more like a ball boy - picking the ball out of his own net. He could and should have done better for both of Fred's goals.
  • Piqué

    Piqué

A horrible night for the central defender which he topped off with a red card for hacking down Neymar in the 68th minute. Had no communication with his right-back and was constantly caught flat-footed by Brazil's swift attacking play.
  • Sergio Ramos

    Sergio Ramos

His second-half penalty miss - struck woefully wide of the post - summed up an awful display. Seemed to completely forget about defending and it cost his team as Brazil created chance after chance.
  • Arbeloa

    Arbeloa Flop of the Match

A dismal 45 minutes for the Real Madrid right-back before he was hauled off at half-time. Had no idea what he was doing for the first goal and was nowhere near Neymar for the second, while he made a number of clumsy challenges to recover from bad positioning.
  • Jordi Alba

    Jordi Alba

The best of a bad bunch in the Spain back four. Offered an attacking outlet and on the whole coped fairly reasonably with Hulk.
  • Andrés Iniesta Luján

    Andrés Iniesta Luján

Class act in the Spain midfield as he looked to open up the Brazil defence with his vision and creativity. He was able to handle Brazil's pressing game better than any of his team-mates.
  • Xavi

    Xavi

A quiet, ineffectual game from the Barcelona midfielder. Precise passing but always found himself in deep positions and was denied space by Brazil's hard-working midfield.
  • Busquets

    Busquets

Sat at the base of the Spain midfield but had no way to cope with the fluidity, movement and speed of Brazil's attacks.
  • Fernando Torres

    Fernando Torres

A virtually anonymous game as he failed to escape the attention of the Brazil defence before being replaced by Villa in the 59th minute.
  • Pedro

    Pedro

Kept trying and looked lively at times, but was on the fringe of the game and only once really troubled the hosts. On that occasion, he was denied an almost certain goal by Luiz's fantastic block.
  • Juan Mata

    Juan Mata

One fine pass to Pedro aside, a very disappointing game after being selected to start ahead of David Silva. Did not see enough of the ball and was unsurprisingly replaced by Jesus Navas seven minutes after the restart.

Substitutions

  • César Azpilicueta

    César Azpilicueta

The Chelsea defender replaced Arbeloa at the break and was only marginally better. Struggled to deal with Neymar and Fred.
  • Jesús Navas González

    Jesús Navas González

Replaced Mata in the 52nd minute and at least added some directness and energy to Spain's play. Brought down by Marcelo for the penalty.
  • David Villa168

    David Villa

Came on for Torres in the 59th minute. Only action of note was a curling late strike that Cesar parried aways
